4 ways to step up your earning potential as a personal trainer

With a finite number of billable hours available during the day, personal trainers often hit a ceiling in terms of their earning potential. However, there are ways to boost your earning power!

Here are four of our best…

1. Get more qualifications

Trainers who continually improve their skills and knowledge base not only become more competent at their job as well as better able to deliver results- which clients were more than willing to pay more for- but they’re able to meet a wider variety of needs.  After all, why refer clients to a massage therapist when you can become a qualified therapist yourself?

More qualifications mean that your resume becomes more attractive in case you decide to seek formal employment in training institutions or at bigger commercial gyms. It also means that you’ll be able to supplement your income during periods when personal training clients aren’t as active.

2. Specialize

You can either choose to become skilled in many aspects of health and fitness or you can choose to specialize in one area. Doing this warrants a higher hourly rate which means you’ll be boosting your income without working additional hours. You could also decide to specialize within a certain field within personal training, such as transformations, weight loss, or stage prep.

3. Get a side hustle

To break away from the time-based limitations in traditional personal training is to take your model online. You can also offer one-on-one coaching and counseling. With all the technology available today, you can engage with more clients during the course of the day while still offering a personalized service.

4. Consider group training

Whether it’s running your own boot camp or a group class at the gym, group training can be quite profitable. It may take an initial investment to secure the appropriate location and get the necessary equipment, but by training up to 15 people an hour, you can significantly increase your earning potential. As a result, your services become more accessible to a wider potential market and clients are more inclined to bring friends along, making it ideal for referral business.
