In choosing this month’s topic, during my research, I encountered the word compliance. The word compliance was used as a solution to a difficult circumstance. I pondered on this word for some time. I considered the word to be final, acceptable, disconcerting, forceful, fulfilling, and much more. It appeared in an interview with an attorney, Aaron
Siri, who is representing Amish parents versus the State of New York.
Having spent time with the Amish in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and even Belize, I was surprised to hear they were involved in a court case that they instigated. My experience of staying with them, getting to know them, teaching them herbal health care, and befriending them, was
wonderful. I found them to be graceful, humble, non-confrontive, and peaceful. The Amish have lived peacefully in New York for 200 years. They separate from society to avoid confrontation and live by their convictions.
What changed is that in 2019 New York changed the law which had protected the Amish for these 200 years. The state eliminated
the religious exemption for pharmaceuticals, which the Amish do not accept. To force compliance, the State of New York fined the Amish schools $2,000 per day for each student not vaccinated. This fine could amount to millions of dollars. To protect their rights, the Amish parents needed to sue the state, which was embarrassing for them. Participating in a suit made them feel combative. They were left with no choice. This is when the host of the show suggested “they could comply,” or, can we say,
surrender, change their beliefs, and not protect their children from harm. The Amish concluded that they would rather be judged in the court of man than in the court of God.
The Amish lost in court and in the Second Circuit Court, but when it went to the Supreme Court, the lower court’s rulings were vacated. They threw them out and said we are
going to respect the Amish’s religious beliefs.
The State of New York ignored the court decision and again tried to force compliance, which would cause the Amish to flee New York, where they originally came for religious freedom. The case is back in court, and let’s hope this time that the Supreme Court doesn’t just vacate but rules against New
York.
I personally believe in freedom of choice, and in reality, I believe in the theory of exposing healthy people to a small amount of attenuated disease and alerting the immune system to the possible onslaught of an epidemic. I do not agree with the current inclusion of any of the over 20 substances in vaccines, especially the adjuvants like
aluminum.
Our bodies are resilient and adapt well with proper nutrition, exercise, and other good health choices. There is never a legitimate reason for forced compliance to any medications.
