I am not one to gloat. However, like many who suffered through the pandemic, I feel like a victory lap—or perhaps just a simple thumbs-up—is in order following the recent news regarding the Justice Department. A grand jury has indicted David M. Morens, 78, of Chevy Chase, Maryland, a former Senior Advisor at the NIAID (2006–2022).
It appears Morens was indicted for concealing records in a scheme to evade Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests related to COVID-19 research grants. In an apparent effort to prevent the discovery of “gain of function” research funding—the very research used to create the released virus—he is also accused of the destruction, alteration, falsification,
removal, and mutilation of records. Each charge could result in three to twenty years of imprisonment.
Being in the same age category, I have a measure of sympathy for the man; I wouldn’t wish prison on anyone in the health field. Heavens, I couldn’t tolerate even one day of prison food!
The true importance of this upcoming trial, however, is the exposure of the timeline and the inner workings of government. We must ensure this never happens again.
If we had known the virus’s origins from the start, we could have stopped its
worldwide spread. The CCP in China knew; they blocked internal travel to stop the spread within their borders but allowed international travel to continue, which fueled the global pandemic. Knowing the genome early could have opened research and lessened the impact. Clues could have been drawn from trials to protect the most vulnerable without impacting all of society.
Honesty from those in charge could have prevented the shutdowns and the destruction of family businesses in favor of corporate chains and big-box stores. Even the simple convenience of not wearing masks would have been a godsend. Studies performed years before the pandemic showed that masks do not stop viruses from entering the respiratory tract.
Furthermore, banning outdoor activities was entirely counterproductive, as sun exposure is a natural destroyer of viruses. With the exception of common-sense practices like washing your hands, almost all of the mandates were counterproductive—especially the nonsensical vaccine mandates. The virus itself is a flash in the past, while the damage from the vaccines continues and may plague us forever.
My prayer is that we all learn from this “Catch-22” episode of our lives and return our trust to our Creator and the natural laws of health.
