It’s that exciting time of year, when kids, technically adults, are moving into their new dorms and apartments at college. Passed are the days you can just dole out herbal remedies from your home apothecary. They are now on their
own.
Here are the main herbal formulas I sent with my kid to college. They don’t take up a lot of room, and they can address a myriad of issues common to life on campus. These formulas contain herbs that are food for the body so they can be used as often as needed.
Nettle. This time of year brings with it a lot of seasonal allergies, especially if your grown-up kid is in a new climate. Nettle leaf is amazing for allergies, hay fever, asthma, and hives. I use capsules because kids are more likely to use them versus nettle tea. Plus, the capsules make the nettle portable. Easy to shove in a backpack when they are on the go.
Sinus Plus. One of my favorite Dr. Christopher formulas. If there is anything going on in the head from a cold, allergies, or sinus issues, this formula helps clear it up. It works with the body and what it needs. Many times, I’ve seen it suddenly clear up a painful, congested head either by making the mucus flow or by drying it out.
Relax-Eze. College is intense. Everything is new. New apartment, new roommates, new professors, new expectations. All this can cause nervousness and anxiety. This formula is wonderful for helping to calm the nerves. It can also help with sleep by relaxing nervous tension so the body can ease into sleep.
Complete Tissue & Bone ointment. There are so many things this formula can help with. Cuts, scrapes, sore muscles, stiff neck, burns, itching, skin issues, bruises, sunburn, sprains. Easy to use, great results.
Lower Bowel. Constipation is no fun and it can be very distracting. Constipation is the cause of many issues all over the body. Such as headaches, dizziness, lower immune function, impaired nutrient absorption, even bronchitis. There are several things at college that can lead to constipation. Such as late-night pizza, too much ramen and not enough vegetables, stress, too little sleep, and anxiousness, to name just a few. Lower Bowel is an easy and
effective way to keep things moving. This formula is not habit forming or harmful so it can be used daily, if needed. They don’t have to wait until they are uncomfortable.
Vitalerbs. Packed with so many vitamins and minerals, this formula is the perfect daily vitamin for a college kid. It won’t make up for all the microwave
meals, but it can help!
